omni in mid side

(1/2) > >>

kip4:
would a mid side recording work with using an omni mic as the mid mic?
any help would be appreciated only i just ordered the x-s mic from naiant and i'd like to experiment with it

stainless:
you said the million dollar word............................

experiment

I think you can make any combination work, with some combos being clear winners, and results varying dependent upon the listener...as well as the usual suspects (room acoustics and signal chain... and also the sound source, whether it be voice or instrument)

...and do keep notes for the rest of us!

kip4:
I wont get much chance to do too much recording over the next couple of week since i'll be putting new wooden flooring in my living room over my holiday, never the less my new mic Naiant X_S mini omni condensor arrived a few days ago and i threw it up in front of the ovation just to see. Heres what happened let me know what you think please.

stainless:
it sounds quite nice... but as the only point of reference... it sounds quite nice

kip4:
I get that mate.
It was just a quick trial at this time i wont get much chance to record. I'll put together a small mix with guitar recording through the X_S and see how it stands up.
I thought it was a fair representation of the sound i was after. I should add that it was capo'd in the 9th fret.
I intend the to experiment with the mic on an onboard bracket (mainly to cut down on bleed and room noise)
Also
mid side (not sure how this is going to work out)
Mic combinations
Differant preamps too ( the pre i ran the trial through is a little too hot overall)
I'll push the envelope and soon discover its strengths and weaknesses i hope
thanks for listening and commenting it's appreciated.
