stereo bar
kip4:
guys i've been thinking i'd like to make a long stereo bar for my mic stand
work will be supplying the 1" wide 1/4" thick aluminium bar
it will be drilled at regular intervals
the biggest problem is finding
set screws, knurled knobs, 3/8" unc (bsw) thread
if anyone know where they can be sourced i'd love to know
suppliers tend to charge a premium price as its an unusual thread
i believe they are used on some camera equipment too
ideally i'd like at least 4 knobs (bolts)
if you think you can help dont hesitate to post a reply thanks in advance

this might be simpler

i had a feeling i had posted this in the right place ie completely stupid questions lol

not stupid at all-
From past experience- if you only need one or two, it's not cost effective to reinvent the wheel. i needed to makes some ceiling mounted mic stands that were in between the size of anything I could buy. I looked at buying a tap and die for the fine threads used on mic stands. For a fraction of that cost I bought a used stand and just cut it to size and instead of the lower piece threading into my mounting plate, I just welded it. It is still adjustable enough for any changes that I'd need.
While it might have been great to have the tap and die, I've not had a need since, so they'd just be sitting in a drawer
With the specialty thread sizes, to get a decent price you'd need to buy quantities, which would only be practical if you were going to produce for sale
at least that's become my take on things as I look at the odd parts I've accumulated over the years in order to make something myself...
unfortunately, I don't have any of those
or, here's a thought (and you might have some laying around)
http://www.filmtools.com/micadapter.html 3/8-16 is a standard thread size

theres a stereo bar just like the one you posted in my local music shop for about 13 squid (15-20 usd) think im gonna have to pay him a visit tommorow thanks for the help
btw im building the bar to use as a recording aid for a choral project i have in mind on a very tall mic stand
could you recommend a length that you think might be good for the bar
i was thinking 60cm (24" old money)
maybe i should make three bars 24" and be able to attach them together (6' long) for decca tree (think thats the technique im thinking of.
reccomendations welcome
