Good read.  Will read it again to absorb more.

Mum's hi-fi speakers suck in the 2khz to 5khz range, and my hi-fi speakers aren't much better.  Do you think manufacturers deliberately scoop that range in a failed attempt to make Hi-fi speakers sound 'nicer' at lower levels?  It's as bad as the 'loudness' button on hi-fi's that boost the bass and treble.  I hear people's hi-fi's, and I can't hear anything except treble and bass.   I admit, when I was young I always had the EQ in the shape of a smile, and blew a few cones because of it.
