TIME BASED PROBLEM

Hi.

I am in a mega rush to build my bass traps but have a fundamental question to ask as regards the design.

I'm in a small bedroom setup and have just understood how much treatment I am about to build into the room.

It's going to be 9 panels 2' X 4' 100mm thick Rockwool RW3. In an 11 by 11' room this is a huge amount especially as I'm going to install 2 super chunks in the corners that are available to me plus 2 triangle corner traps.

The question I have is this and it regards the room space that is about to be taken up. Given I am building these traps as shown here:

Can I use their design but somewhat twist it to have a less protruding bass trap?

On page 12 can I take the Rockwool and lift it behind the frame build and put it into the inside of the traps frame and the wrap the good cloth around the back as it were?

By sinking the rockwool 50mm into the frame, would this have any negative side effects to its efficiency?

Would I still need an airgap behind the trap?

I'd appreciate your thoughts as I'm on a tight deadline. Cheers, Ste.

I asked years ago on several forums why the traps  always seemed to be 24 x 48... I never got any definitive answer aside from "... cuz that's how big the panels are"

I believe (from what I understand) is the main objective is to have 4" (100mm) of material in the corners

which I then asked if you couldn't just stack 4 x 4 squares  from ceiling to floor instead of killing the amount of space placing full panels across the corners.... again no definitive answer... except a couple of folks though that was an awful lot of work so cut up the material... it might use more.... and why wouldn't I just do what others had done?  it actually would use less material... but covering was a bit problematic ... so Idid this insteadhttp://www.recordingproject.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=30783&highlight=minibass+traps

I have since made these as small as 6 x 6 on the right angle side of the triangle, and as large as 12 x 24 on a couple of mid wall/ceiling traps

is it the best possible... who knows, but it made a huge difference in my recordings and mixes and is something I wish I had done from the beginning

That's exactly what I'm going to do in the two corners that the room allows me to.

Glad to see the pics and that you found it helped a lot.
