JBL Little Guys

Greetings all,
   I just acquired a pair if JBL LSR2325P 5" monitors. I'm pairing them with an M-Audio BX-10s subwoofer. I'm wondering if anyone else has used these little guys with a powered sub and where you've set your crossover point.

Hi Jim

I have the LSR4326P paired with the JBL sub and the crossover is set at 180 Hz... no particular reason, tat was the factory default and I just left it alone

Thanks very much for the reply, Stainless! However your JBLs are considerably higher-end than mine. I was more concerned how the LSR2325Ps sound with a sub. I've got mine set flat and the sub set at 80Hz and it sounds a little rumbly. Anyone out there with LSR2325Ps?

Hi,

I read somewhere that a subwoofer's low pass filter should be set to 70% of the lowest frequency that your main speakers can operate down to.  For example, if your speakers are able to go down to 60hz, you would set the subwoofer's Low pass filter at 42hz, because that is 70% of 60hz.  That's what I read anyway, but seems about right.

Level wise, you should try and set it so it sounds 'as if' the low frequencies are coming out of the main speakers.  If set to high, you'll notice the sub, and if set too low, the bass will reduce as it hits the lower notes.  You just need to find the right level.  Sine wave sweep might help you with that.

Room treatment is also important as the room acoustics may create frequency peaks and dips.
