Studio Drums

Hi all,

I need a drum kit for recording, and am looking for advice on which way to go.

I was recommended Addictive Drums made by XLN Audio.  I've downloaded a demo, and it is impressive.  It's computer based virtual drums, which you trigger via midi using something like a Roland V-Drums kit.  I have a V-Drums sound module, and Addictive Drums kicks its ass, especially the hi-hats.  The kits sound very authentic to me.  It seems like a versatile option cuz you can buy many kits, and it's an easy option with regards to recording.

Or I could buy an acoustic kit.  I have the space, but I don't know how much better it would sound compared to Addictive Drums.

Have any of you heard Addictive Drums?

If you were to swiftly glance through my new site you can read my philosophy on this matter and you may hear how Addictive Drums (and other software) sounds in a premix.
There is always a difference between an acoustic and a sampled setup, but the margins are getting thinner and thinner. It largely depends on the player if the final outcome
is to sound believable. Then the kit, the acoustic environment, the micing etc etc. Hats and cymbals are normally the most difficult to get right when using drum software. Addictive Drums are really good, and so are Superior Drummer. There are of course many others out there (Mixosaurus, OWD, SSD, BFD, ARD for example...).
