I'd head over to the Avid (ProTools) DUC forum  and ask there... also do a search first so you don't get flamed (there's a few jerky boyz  that seem relish jump on folks who haven't done due diligence) . I owned a 002 and used a Digimax via lightipipe... but really don't know how you'd use 2 002's together (seems one would need to be designated "master" and the other "slave" (clocking may be as simple as designating one internal and the other external)

a quick search fornd this... and it's not ebcouraging  http://duc.avid.com/archive/index.php/t-132719.html

maybe something has changed (I had 8.0 LE and don't remember anything in I/O or hardware set-up that show a 2nd 002 as an option (but then i never really looked)

I'm guessing you can sell one of the 002's for enough to buy a DigiMax or maybe ab D8... but they have internal pre's, so you're limited to 4 dirtect inputs on the 002 and the SPDIF (which will give you 2 more from a external pre with a digital DPDIF out)

Let us kknow what you come up with- my 002R is over at the bass player's house (keeps him entertained)

Ok.so it looks like I might be able to slave the first 002 into the second using the optical out from #1 into the optical in on #2 then firewire the second unit into the puter. The first unit will be seen as ADAT i/o...........hmmmmm think i need to at least give that a shot, already have both 002rack units, looks like all i need to get is an optical cable to give i a shot...... thanks again bro..............

SHEESH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now dealing with a dilemna here.......seems firewire accessories are being phased out for PC....trying to find the proper firewire card for my puter and running into brick walls..does the 002 rack have a 4 pin, 6 pin or 9 pin firewire plug in it ?  Sorry I am new to this firewire thing and it is confusing me big time........I have a HP p6510y tower and been told that it could have anyone of 3 different connectors to add a firewire card........ they said the connector could be either red, yellow or white.......just opened the tower and the connector is black !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is there a viable alternative for me to use the lightpipe connection ?  AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Firewire connections / plugs are relevant to the speed of transfer (Mbits) , 400 or 800, are most common (though there are/were some other protocols..) but you should be able to look at the connector on the back  and see if it's 4 or 6 pin (pretty sure it's not 9 pin (FW 800) and as 4 pin is mainly for DV apps, it's probably 6 pin.

and they make adapters for 9 to 6 pin (and visa versa).

The slowest transfer capability will limit what you get, so you can plug a slower FW into a faster port.

They will be slowly phased out. the new Macs only have 800 ports now

here's a source for a PCI cart  http://www.cablestogo.com/product_list.asp?cat_id=605  and they also have the adapter cords

and there are USB to 6 pin firewire adapters also

good luck

Here is a list of recommended firewire cards: http://archive.digidesign.com/compato/os9/hw/firewirecards.html

I've looked 2 up and they are 6-pin, so I presume the 002 requires a 6-pin connection.

The PCI cards require a standard PCI 2.1 slot, which are pretty standard and I would assume that your PC will have at least one.

I'd probably try and find a map of your motherboard to be clear about what slot is what before  you put it in.

Dunno if i've helped.

this card "should" give you the greatest flexibility, and it's plug and play, but as Gaz suggested - make sure you know what slots are available on your MB

I've looked your computer up (HP Pavilion p6510y), and found out the motherboard make.  It says  this is it: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&docname=c01925486&product=4007354#N313.

As you can see, under expansion slots it says it has One PCI Express x16 slot, Three PCI Express x1 slot, and One PCI Express x1 minicard socket

I don't believe you can put a standard PCI card in a PCI express slot because the voltages are different.

So you just need to buy a PCI Express 6-pin firewire card and it'll fit any of the 4 slots.

Oh geeze..what next......now I am experiencing the dreaded DAE Loaded freeze......have uninstalled pro tools and reinstalled, gotten the latest legacy drivers for the firewire card, dumped caches etc all still to no avail........checked the devices and all are working properly. I am getting the sample light and firewire light on the 002 and it still freezes at the DAE loaded........

Does it freeze while it's loading up (starting)?

any programs you loaded or upgraded/updated while you were in the process of getting the new set-up going

any unauthorized plug-ins (many not officially approved)? this is often what causes  the program to hang up while it's loading?

Move all you're not PT/AVID plugs ins into a new folder

if it loads, then start moving one plug-in at a time until you find which one it is

and, if you haven't posted this on the DUC, you probably should

as I recall I had a couple of freebies from developers who made approved plug-insfor PT and they would lock up or crash the system... one was from IK, and I had a  few VST's that would crash the program...

Ok, new weirdness.....i unplugged the firewire cable from the 002 when the DAE Loaded freeze happened.........a prompt to enter my authorization code for the software came up...I entered it and protools launched, ok, then attempted to play a previously recorded track and it came up with clock sync problems, check sample rate and clock settings......went in and did that the sample rate is at 44.1k and the clock is set to internal........ok went to shut down PT , the windows all closed as they were supposed to, but I noticed the firewire light was staying on the front of the 002. Went to relaunch PT and it came up, computer must be rebooted to run protools again......ok, rebooted and same thing all over......DAE Loaded freeze.

so, if you unplug the Firewire you can get it to load...  so the firewire light is on with no firewire plugged in?

no real idea
