I'm thinking about getting the UAD-2 PCIe  card (I presently have all 4 slots empty)
I never used one, but I hear they are nice. I wonder if they are as good or better than the high end plug-ins on the market.

I've heard the same, I've used a couple of the UAD plugs that don't require the cards (ProTools versions) and they're very nice

I'm trying to plan my next upgrade- I've got a pile of stuff to sell that I'm not using (002R w/ PT 8.0), Farfissa Professional keyboard, some patchbays, a bunch of cables, and some misc rack gear, plus I may let the pair of modded Oktava Mk-319's go- I like them, but they just don't get used as i seem to grab the tube, or the AT's for vocals.

I've tried using as OH's but they're a bit too bright and being LDC they pick up too much of the rest of the kit (I'm looking at/for a pair of NT3')

I've learned to be a bit more 'thoughtful' with upgrades... plus I've reached a point where much of what I'm looking at isn't at bargain prices and easily found used
