Word Clock
« on: May 01, 2010, 09:58:50 AM »
Hi all,

I have never dealt with word clock before, and know very little about it, but I think I need to now.

My gear is in storage so can't experiment yet, but I've bought some new digital stuff.  I was hoping that it would all simply work together, but the manual says otherwise.

What I have: Triton-Rack with ADAT out.  01v mixer with ADAT I/O.  Mackie Onyx 800r with ADAT Out, and a MOTO 2048 MK 3 with 3 x ADAT I/O.

My ADAT connection idea: Triton OUT to 01V IN.  01V OUT to MOTU IN.  800R OUT TO MOTU IN

The 01V will be used just for live monitoring of my MIDI sound modules and keyboards, then I'll record to PC via ADAT when the songs are complete so that I can mix them properly within Cubase.  I'll monitor the 01V output via ADAT.  The sound modules are midi triggered, so they just need monitoring.  So, basically the 01v is a sub mixer, and the MOTU PC Interface is the main mixer, connected to my monitors.

Will I get clocking errors?

The MOTU has a word clock I/O so I'm presuming I could use it as the master.  I'm not sure if I have a clock rate limit - my O1V only gives an option of 44.1khz INTERNAL and 48khz EXTERNAL - so does this mean that it won't accept external clock rates higher than 48khz?  In which case, can I only run my studio at 48khz?

Thanks in advance,

Gaz

In your software set-up there should be a set-up for the clock/ speed... set it so so everything sinchs to the Motu

if you get click and pops... then there's a clocking issue and you may need an external "maseter" clock to synch everything to

Black Lion has a really good looking one that I've only heard good things about....and it's only $500... much less than a Big Ben
