The Hitchikin' Song.
« on: March 21, 2010, 07:21:40 PM »
An old high school friend came over to record some stuff. (Mostly just goofing around and an excuse to get together and drink a few beers.) It is a simple acoustic, harp, and vocals mix.

I am happy with the sound of the original tracks. I made very few EQ adjustments and they were minimal. All tracks are almost raw as recorded. The harp even came out smooth sounding as well.

I posted a video of this session here. http://www.home-recording-studio-forum.com/unrelated_files/sammy_vid/index.html

...And the mp3 is attached to this post.

(Oh, and I know "Hitch Hiking" is spelled wrong. That's the way he wanted it named.)

who's singing? you or him?

I was developing a visual of the performance  >:D-  some timing issues aside it was an interesting listen, the ending kinda went off on it's own and could have ended sooner but that's just my personal nit-

are you gonna refine this or leave as is?

Not me singing. His name is Sammy. He played the guitar, harp, and sang. All I did was record it.

I noticed the timing issues too. I offered him a click track more than once but he apparently doesn't like them. We did four songs that day. Unless he wants to refine them more, I assume they are done.

Too many years of smoking, drinking, and drugs has left him a little rough around the edges to say the least. I suppose this may be the best his songs are going to get.

I'll put up another song if you want.

Here is the session video. I should have made it brighter in the studio for the camera. (It also got some screen anomalies from the video compression. The original is cleaner and doesn't have the red steaks in it.) My first session video attempt.

It is a little easier to take than the mp3 alone. As I said, we were just getting drunk and having fun with it. I don't think he plans to release it anywhere.

I was hoping that someone would critique my tracking skills more than his talent, but that was worthy of discussion too.
