A purchase...
« on: March 04, 2010, 10:10:40 AM »
Hi,

Well, I've just ordered an ADAT interface for my 01V mixer... £180 off eBay.

I'm a bit anxious because it's the first piece of 'recording' gear I've ordered.  All my other gear is midi stuff.

I want to start recording, so I figured instead of buying dedicated pre's straight away, I would use my mixer by just expanding it.  If it doesn't work out, then I haven't bought too much.

It's not going to be as easy for me as it would have been if I had a rack-mount pre - the gain pots on my mixer are too far away for me to reach easily - but I have a carer/assistant, so I'll just have to teach him how to set gains.

Now I just need a cheap ADAT interface for my PC, and a few mics.  I've looked for a simple USB to ADAT interface, but I can't find any.  All the interfaces I've found have loads of other things that I don't need - mic pre's, line IN/OUT, etc - which just bumps up the price.  Frontier Design do a ADAT PCI card, which would work, but would mean fiddling around inside my PC, which isn't ideal.  A simple USB or Firewire ADAT interface would be easiest.
