re-amping drums
« on: October 21, 2008, 02:15:15 PM »
I read an article recently where they laid an amp on it's back and place a snare on top of it with a mic on the snare?

like wise, with the amp upright, they had a kick in front with a mic on the kick head (opposite) the amp speaker

anybody try this?

couldn't I just send an output signal to the amp?

So let me get this straight...Do you mean they made the amp play a drum sound, which made the drum jump, just so they could record the drum?

It sounds to me like all they've done is come up with a creative way to smack a drum without using a stick.  :wtf:

Why yes, I believe you could.

they send the snare track to the amp- It wasn't clear to me if they then mixed the original track with the re-amped (and I do remember there was some nudging to deal with some slight latency)

sounds like something to do this winter when it's raining and I'm somewhat bored! :D

I'm pretty sure it was in the recent (or next to most recent) Tape-Op-  there's a few other bits of discussion on the net, but the article raised the interesting possibilities (if it works all that well)

Fun, sounds like the reverb unit I made with a couple of mics and a soundboard/harp from a piano.  :)

Yeah, that can be freaking cool.

Have you tried it as a percussion instrument? Works fantastically well, just tape down the strings that you dont want ringing and you get a very esotheric instrument.

Sounds interesting with the snare reamping. It could work very well if the new signal was blended in with the old one Fattening things up.
